U14 Boys won 5:3 against Team Bath Buccs A

posted 29 Dec 2012 10:09 by Richard Major   [ updated 29 Dec 2012 10:11 ]

The under 14 boys take on Bath Buccs A team at UWE. We started in a bit of confusion due us believing we had 12 players but one had not actually turned up so the sub was quickly rushed in to the game. I just think that due to this we were not fully switched on and Bath made a quick attack and scored within a minute. Not a good start! However we soon got in to the swing of things and began to launch attack after attack and had quite a few shots at goal from all angles. Finally we got the breakthrough with a goal from Hugo Cullum and then through constant pressure we scored a second through James Nightingale and really the game should have been out of sight by half time.
The second half saw a lot of end to end play and Bath scored a second to draw level. Our heads did not go down and we put them under a lot of pressure from then on and scored 2 further goals through George Mantzos and Hugo again. Bath did again push forward to score a third but we managed to score a fifth goal through George Mantzos and seal a well deserved victory.
A big well done to the boys as they had to all play the whole game without any chance to take a break. As allways thanks to the support from the parents and a big thankyou to David Harris for umpiring again

U14 Boys won 7:0 against Cirencester

posted 3 Dec 2012 03:52 by Richard Major

A cold but dry day saw a surprisingly one sided game with Firebrands attacking right from the first whistle. Although a lot of pressure was applied and a number of shots taken, the Cirencester Goalie was saving everything thrown at him. Eventually however the constant pressure told and Benny Dell scored the opening goal after some good teamwork. Two further goals were scored before the break by Louie Shaw and Hugo Cullum.
After the break further goals were scored at regular intervals by Louie Shaw again, George Mantzos, Sevven Smith and Rowan Patel. All of the squad played their part in the victory, although Goalie Ed only kicked the ball once in the game!
As always there was great support from the parents which is very much appreciated.

U14 Boys drew 1:1 with City of Bath

posted 15 Oct 2012 00:50 by Richard Major

Again we were really fortunate with the weather and played the whole game in glorious sunshine. It was our second game and the opposition were extremely strong. There were a lot of talented youngsters playing a very competitive game of hockey. Both teams could have won but a one all draw was the final result and a it was a fair one. Our goal was scored by Tom Hodgson with a flick at a short corner. A big well done to the squad and thanks for the spirit in which subbing was undertaken, I know everyone wanted to play the full 50 minutes!

U14 Boys beat Bristol and West 5:0

posted 8 Oct 2012 06:57 by Richard Major

The Under 14 boys got off to a great winning start against Bristol and West. The boys started the game as if they had been playing together for years with some excellent crisp passing backed up with some strong precise tackling and we certainly took them a bit by surprise. We took a while to find the net, mainly due to some fine keeping by their goalkeeper, but it had to happen eventually as we were so much in control. We eventually ran out winners by a score of 5 to nil. Our scorers were George Mantzos, Tom Wheeler, Tom Hodgson, Hugo Cullum and Louie Shaw. The whole squad put in a sterling performance.

Our game next week should also provide us with a good challenge as we are playing City of Bath at the UWE ground, 2.30pm start if anyone would like to come and support us.

Amendment to Junior Training Schedule

posted 9 Sep 2012 08:38 by Richard Major

The club has received some feedback from a number of BGS parents that BGS are running an extra training session for years 8 and 9 girls on Wednesdays between 4pm and 6pm. This is also the night that the club had planned for U14 girls between 6pm and 7pm. The club appreciate that it is would be very hard for the girls to complete that level of training in a single night as well as fitting in a meal and homework.  Therefore, given that a significant proportion of our U14 girls are from BGS and will attend the school's extra session, the club has decided to amend the training times to help solve this problem. The club realise that this is short notice but the club feel that it is important that we respond to feedback in a timely manner.

Therefore the junior training plan will be amended so that the U14 Girls is now on a Tuesday night. In order to accommodate this, the U12s Mixed session has now been split over 2 nights. Parents are able to select which night they would like their child to attend which the club hope will also be of benefit to parents.  Please note there will be a capacity limit on each night but hopefully this will not be an issue at this stage.

The full training plan is shown below:

Monday

1800-1900  U14 and U16 Boys (no changes)

Tuesday

1800-1900  U12 Mixed (Split into two sessions - one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday)
