Keith Board - "Mr Firebrand"

Turning back to Brands, he was of course saddened by a slump in the teams fortunes during the late nineties, but was heartened by the revival that took place when David Hacker, the then British Olympic Vice-Captain and Welsh International was installed as 1st team coach. Boardy was hugely instrumental in securing Dave’s services, seeing quite clearly the importance for any ambitious club of having a top quality coach. When David’s career move took him from Canterbury to Millfield, it was Keith who wasted no time in making contact through the offices of his favourite ex-Brands skipper and Millfield teacher Jo Morgan-Hughes.
It was always the boys that were Keiths passion, even in the final dark days when he was so desperately ill, he still made it to the game to be rewarded on that day by the 6-1 thrashing of long time rivals, Havant – the last time he was to see his beloved Firebrands.
