Keith Board - "Mr Firebrand"
Memories of Boardy from Roly Ward.
| I used to sit with Keith on a weekly
basis (From the age of about 6) watching the 1st Team (and my dad) playing
on the old gravel pitch before it was astro turf. Keith used to look after
me whilst dad was playing (Indoors and Outdoors) or whilst he was in casualty
being stitched up!! I played my first game for Keith in the Sparks when I was 6 on the left wing - I stood in the left wing position on the half way line for the whole match and touched the ball once when I kicked it.......nothing changes!! When I was 9 Keith said to me that he thought I would play in the 1st Team before I was 16. He was right - I made made my National League debut against Southgate when I was 15 in the old National League One. We lost 4-1with myself coming on to the pitch for the last 10 mins and scoring our only goal - Keith was watching, I know this meant alot. |
