Junior Academy

Firebrands runs a large and vibrant Academy Section welcoming 7 to 16 year old boys and girls. Players can be selected to train and play for senior teams from the age of 13 with Academy and adult coaches working closely to develop players.

At Firebrands we recognise the need to develop talent, through structured coaching and player mentoring, in a safe and friendly environment. Our coaches are DBS checked and experienced in positively encouraging Academy players to develop and work on their core skills.

Firebrands hockey is FUN and expansive, you can learn to play a new sport and make new friends, you can improve on your skills and achieve your goals.

Details of the teams we run and training times can be found here.

When We Play

Matches are mainly played on Sundays.

All junior teams will be entered into all available competitions including Avon Junior League, Avon County competitions and England Hockey competitions.

New this season: England Hockey has started a Vixens League, which is an informal 11-a-side ladies development league for developing young players for the transition into adult hockey.

All Academy players who are considered strong enough are invited to train with and play for Firebrands adult teams

If you would like further information or have any queries on Firebrands Academy training please e-mail fhcjnr@gmail.com and we will direct your query to the correct Academy coach for your child's age group

Information & Membership

Come and join Bristol’s largest hockey club! This is our fourth year as an Academy, coached by experienced and enthusiastic coaches. Firebrands Hockey Club is a great believer in young players being the future, not always as elite players, but believe young players are the future in hockey for all. We always make the training challenging but fun. We take experienced players and also young players wanting to try something new (taster sessions before commitment).

Membership for the 2019/20 season – please email fhcjnr@gmail.com.

Academy membership fees for the 2019/20 season remain at £100.00. Additional games or tournaments will not incur any additional fees, with the exception of indoor training and matches which require external facilities.

We now run our membership program online using ClubBuzz. The Manager / Administrator for your age group will send you a link to either join or renew your membership. Please note that the Academy membership form contains important details such as emergency contacts, medical information and photography consent. We would be grateful if you could provide us with as much detail as possible to ensure our records are completely up to date.

When you get the email, please complete the form on behalf of your child, entering their details online. Please note all correspondence will be sent to the email address you supply, so for juniors we suggest you use the parent or guardian's email address. Once you have registered, within a couple of weeks you will receive a request for payment of your subscription. To help is reduce the administrative burden on our volunteers, we are taking online card payments only this year.

Kit

Club kit can be found here: https://www.allrounderhockey.com/hockey-teamwear/firebrands-hockey-club - all juniors also playing adult matches will need to have a full playing top (coaches will provide shirt numbers).

Volunteers

The club can only run with the help of volunteers. We are always looking for enthusiastic hockey lovers to help out in all areas from coaching to umpiring and on the admin side. Please let us know if you would like to get involved - the club can assist with coaching/umpire courses. We are in greatest need of assistance with the admin of the girls U12/U14 sides as we have no one to cover these groups. We have invested in a new system so admin is now greatly reduced; please contact Sarah Hughes if you can provide some help. Thank you.
